Truth be known, SF probably should have lost that game for a few reasons, but I'm not going to go there. A "W" is a "W". Good ol' coach Fassell really out-coached himself Sunday. That, and the sloppy officiating at the end of the game kind of takes the pizzaz out of the comeback win. But, I'll take it, yes indeedie do.

Controversy

Boy, if ever there was a time for a soapbox...

I can't believe the NFL front office is now out stating a penalty should have been called on the SF49er's for pass interference. Yes, it did occur, and yes, the ref's on the field should have tossed the flag for that offense as well. They didn't. Period. The NFL office is now in the business of publicly arm-chair quarterbacking, too?

What about the non-call a couple of plays earlier, where a pass was intercepted, and the line judge threw down is bean-bag (indicating a change of possession?) If it wasn't an interception, it was clearly a call that should have been reviewed. In fact, the officials stopped the next play to confirm whether or not the play was to be reviewed. The review official declined making it reviewable. Where is the NFL's front office now? Don't they have something to say about that play as well? They should.

Heck, for that matter, where is NFL headquarters? New York, huh? Guess they were upset that the Super Bowl won't be a New York vs. New York Super Bowl, with paid transportation and statium seats in sunny San Diego. Or, maybe they're just having a difficult time being unbiased, job ethics be damned.

With all of the controverial calls in the play-offs the last three seasons, why speak up now? They've opened a door that can hurt professional football, and I'll bet they're too dumb to figure out how to close it in time before it can never be closed again.

Soapbox? Oh, sheesh...here it is under my feet all this time.

I dunno, JaceSan.

The officials aren't doing so hot this season, and the added burden of the NFL front office taking sides now, it may not be so cut-n-dried. Raiders for all intents and purposes should win this one, yes.

BUT...there are other forces here at work. The NFL front office may not take too kindly to officials that allow another New York team being eliminated from the Super Bowl.

Yeah, yeah...I'll get over it by February 1st.

I won't go on about last seasons call that eliminated the Raiders from the playoffs. They're the Raiders, they shouldn't expect any breaks from the officials. Especially after walking out on them at the beginning of the season during a training camp meeting. I don't begrudge the Patriots thier championship at all. If you want to take the officials out of the game you have to bury the opposing team. Score so many points that a couple of bad calls aren't going to affect the outcome. The Raiders of all teams should understand this and deal with it accordingly. I know Raider fans that whine about biased officiating. I tell them the same thing. You can take the officials out of the game by playing good ball and completely dominating the other team. That way the officials are really nothing more than spectators. People only have power over you if you let them.

BTW The Giants deserved to lose for letting the 49ers back into a game they had wrapped up. If they're going to snivel about a blown call I think that just makes them look like a bunch of babies. Game's over. Deal with it.

Turned off the Browns/Steelers came cause I figured it was over with a Browns win.

Turned off the Giants/49ers game because I figured the Giants had it wrapped up.

That'll teach me.

At least I saw the Ohio State/Miami game all the way thru and saw Duke beat Clemson at b-ball.

And anyone who's losing right now isn't losing because of bad calls. They're losing because they were either never in the game to begin with (Packers/Falcons) or because they don't know how to hold on to a lead. How can you give up a 24 point lead and then gripe about officiating? Did the officials make you throw away three touchdowns and a field goal? Geeeeez.

Speaking of Miami, McGahee, the tailback that almost blew out his knee (surgery was finished two days ago and he's been released) has a Lloyds of London policy against him not being able to play in the NFL. Got a 2.5 million dollar policy a couple of days before the game. Elligible to collect one year from when he was injured. Instead of going to the NFL draft this year, he'll play another season at Miami. He's young, and I hope he heals well...but, talk about pre-emptive thinking, huh?
